PBA Cheetah Championship

Ryan Ciminelli, who was the top qualifier in two of three Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour Qualifying Rounds (TQR) this past weekend, continued his torrid pace by leading qualifying after the first seven-game block Tuesday in the PBA Cheetah Championship at Thunderbowl.

Ciminelli, of Cheektowaga, NY, had a 1,795 seven-game pinfall (256.4 average)on games of 236, 300, 248, 258, 216, 279 and 258 to hold an 18-pin lead over
fellow western New Yorker Jack Jurek of Lackawanna.

Ciminelli was the top qualifier in the Cheetah Championship TQR last Saturday
and the Chameleon Championship TQR Sunday. He finished second in the Viper Championship qualifier also held on Sunday.

The key for Ciminelli so far has been making minor adjustments and using less
aggressive urethane equipment.

“I love the Cheetah (lane condition) pattern and have a lot of confidence
striking on it,” said the 23-year-old Ciminelli, whose best Lumber Liquidators
PBA Tour
finish is seventh. “Right now I’m sticking with a urethane ball and I’m
throwing straight down the lane which is key for me to be able to carry
strikes.”

The Cheetah Championship is the second tournament of the PBA World Series of Bowling which runs through Sept. 6.

The 72-player field will bowl another seven-game qualifying round this afternoon
after which the field will be cut to the Round of 28 who will advance to best-of-seven game match play beginning Wednesday at 9 a.m. Match play continues on Thursday with the finals to be conducted at 7 p.m. ET.

The entire event is being taped with the highlight-style telecast airing on ESPN
Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. ET.
