Jones Leads Entering Match Play at The Earl Anthony Memorial

Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, SC, momentarily slipped into second place, but fired a 288 game to regain the top qualifying position in the Professional Bowlers Association’s Earl Anthony Memorial at Earl Anthony’s Dublin Bowl Thursday.

Jones, a 12-time PBA Tour winner who hasn’t won since 2008, averaged 232 for 14 games of qualifying to lead the field of 28 men into the best-of-seven-game, single-elimination match play competition Friday.

Jones finished with 3,249 pins. Australia’s two-handed sensation, Jason Belmonte, was second, 25 pins behind. Brian Kretzer of Dayton, OH, was third with a 3,122 total followed by Mike Wolfe of New Albany, IN, at 3,112 and Chris Barnes of Double Oak, TX, at 3,096.
