PBA AND USBC ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP MOVING PBA LIVESTREAMING TO BOWLTV FOR 2023 SEASON

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Professional Bowlers Association and United States Bowling Congress have agreed on a partnership to offer exclusive livestreaming coverage of the 2023 Guaranteed Rate PBA Tour season on BowlTV.

The agreement will include comprehensive coverage of the PBA National Tour, as well as PBA50, PBA Jr. and PBA Regional Tour events. BowlTV’s season coverage will feature all PBA Tour qualifying rounds and championship rounds for five PBA Classic series tournaments. The coverage also will include the entirety of the Roth/Holman PBA Doubles Championship and all PBA50 Tour events.

This agreement brings the PBA Tour, Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour and USBC short-duration tournaments to the same BowlTV livestreaming platform, providing subscribers unprecedented access to top-level bowling with one subscription.

“We are pleased to have all professional bowling come together under the same platform for 2023,” PBA Tour Commissioner Tom Clark said. “BowlTV’s coverage will be tremendous for bowling fans.”

PBA coverage on BowlTV will include multiple channels at each event, so fans can follow their favorite PBA competitors. The broadcasts also will include professional commentary, interviews and analysis featuring top bowling experts.

PBA50 TOUR ANNOUNCES 2022 SEASON SCHEDULE

New York, N.Y.—The 2022 PBA50 Tour will open competition in April with a return to Fort Myers, Fla. for the PBA50 Lightning Strikes Open. Four major championships, three PBA60 exclusive events, five new venues and a collection of PBA Hall of Famers highlight the 17-event season that concludes in August.

All four PBA50 major championships return in 2022: the Florida Blue Medicare PBA50 National Championship in The Villages, Fla., April 24-28, USBC Senior Masters in Las Vegas, Nev., June 6-10, PBA Senior U.S. Open in Lubbock, Texas, July 2-6 and PBA50 Cup in Westland, Mich., July 18-21.

Pete Weber is the defending PBA50 National Champion, Chris Barnes will defend the PBA50 Cup and Tom Hess will defend both the USBC Senior Masters and PBA Senior U.S. Open.

Hess enters the season as the reigning PBA50 Player of the Year and PBA50 Rookie of the Year, having defeated Barnes in the championship match of both the Senior U.S. Open and USBC Senior Masters to clinch both awards.

The PBA50 Tour again begins in Florida and moves up the coast before going west and ultimately finishing in the Midwest. New events for 2022 include the PBA50 Mooresville Open in Mooresville, N.C. (last held in 2019) and the PBA50 Highland Park Lanes Open in Greeley, Colo. The PBA50 Bud Moore Classic will again hold its finals in Bud Moore Lanes at the home of Bill Moore, with qualifying this year taking place at Bowl America Dranesville in Sterling, Va. The PBA50 Cup moves from Lubbock, where the Senior U.S. Open will be held, to Vision Lanes in Westland.

Weber, who won two PBA50 titles in 2021 to give him 13 in his career, will be chasing Walter Ray Williams Jr., who won the season-opening event last season to set the all-time record with 15 PBA50 Tour titles. The win broke the tie at 14 Williams previously shared with John Handegard. Weber and Williams will have 14 PBA50 events in which to battle. Williams, along with all other players age 60 and over, will have three more chances to compete in PBA60-exclusive events.

In addition to the returning USBC Super Senior Classic and PBA60 Dick Weber Open, PBA60 players will close the season in the PBA60 Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl Open.

With COVID-19 death toll rising in Florida, PBA postpones PBA50 Tour World Series of Bowling

Monday the PBA announced that it was postponing the PBA50 Tour World Series of Bowling that was scheduled for Aug. 8-15 at The Villages, Florida.

THE VILLAGES, Fla. - The World Series of Bowling concept has come to the PBA50 Tour. The Professional Bowlers Association has announced the first-ever Florida Blue Medicare PBA50 WSOB, slated for August 8-15 at Spanish Springs Lanes at The Villages, Fl.

The multi-faceted event will feature three PBA50 title tournaments on different Legend oil patterns (PBA Roth 42, PBA Ballard 34 and PBA Petraglia 46), plus the main event PBA50 Florida Blue Medicare National Championship as the focal point PBA50 major on PBA Holman 37.

A full field of 192 of the greatest bowlers more than 50 years of age is expected for the $224,000 PBA50 WSOB event, including many PBA Hall of Famers such as Walter Ray Williams Jr., Norm Duke, Pete Weber, Parker Bohn, Johnny Petraglia and Amleto Monacelli. PBA50 newcomers and Hall of Famers Chris Barnes and Jason Couch are also expected to compete.

FloBowling will have exclusive coverage of all rounds of the competition, including four different match play rounds and all of the finals.

Faced with the global pandemic threatening the cancellation of the entire 2020 PBA50 Tour, the PBA and longtime partner Larry Ducat at The Villages worked together to create this event, in the mold of the Go Bowling! PBA Tour WSOB and its multiple opportunities for players in one location with one entry fee, which celebrated its 11th year earlier in 2020.

As in the PBA WSOB, the PBA50 WSOB qualifying games in the PBA Mark Roth Championship, PBA Del Ballard Championship, and PBA Johnny Petraglia Championship will count towards the main event PBA National Championship.

Health and safety measures will be paramount at the event at The Villages, considering state and local guidelines. Among other things, there will be three squads of qualifying to ensure social distancing during play.

The rest of the previously scheduled 2020 PBA50 Tour has been canceled, meaning the following events: Johnny Petraglia BVL Open, Mooresville Open, Lubbock Sports Cup, Suncoast US Senior Open, Fountain Valley Open, River City Extreme Open, South Shore Open, Championship Lanes Classic, Spectrum Lanes Open, Jax 60 Open, and the PBA60 Dick Weber Classic.

The PBA expresses thanks to all the previously scheduled 2020 PBA50 Tour hosts and hopes to be back in 2021 to all the great partner venues.

One $750 entry fee enters each player into all four events. The PBA50 National Championship will have a first place prize of $15,000 and pay ratio of 1:3, plus eight Super Senior cash spots. The top 24 in each of the three Legend Pattern events plus four Super Senior will cash, with the winners of all three Legend Pattern events earning $3,500. Entry information is at pba.com.

Duke Retains Inside Track in PBA50 Player of the Year Race

With the inside track in the PBA50 Player of the Year race on the
tour for players 50 and older, PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke of Clermont, Florida, averaged 229.3 to lead qualifying Tuesday in the PBA50 Treasure Island Resort & Casino Open presented by Hammer at Island Xtreme Bowl, Welch, MN.

Duke, who has won two titles this season including the PBA Senior U.S. Open and has already earned PBA50 Rookie of the Year honors, finished qualifying with a 3,670 pinfall total for 16 games to hold a 25-pin lead over two-time PBA50 Tour winner Lennie Boresch Jr. of Kenosha, Wisconsin, in second with 3,645. Duke had games of 210, 277, 201, 248, 215, 258, 230 and 247 in Tuesday’s second round.

“That’s the reason we’re here,” said the 37-time PBA Tour winner about his quest for PBA50 Player of the Year. “There were some great players battling for it all season and it’s what we all want.”

The two other players in contention for PBA50 Player of the Year – Hall of
Famers Pete Weber and Tom Baker – also advanced to match play finishing
qualifying in eighth and ninth, respectively, but Weber and Duke will receive a
one-round bye in match play as a result of finishing in the top eight.

“It’s really a tournament inside of a tournament,” Duke added. “With the race
coming down to the last tournament of the year, it makes it fun. I’ll have to be
at my best because I know they’ll be prepared.”

If Duke can win PBA50 Player of the Year, he would join Baker as the only
players to earn Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season.  Baker, who is trying for his fifth PBA50 Player of the Year title, accomplished the feat in 2005.

Duke leads the PBA50 Player of the Year race with 56 points, holding an
eight-point lead over Weber in second with 48 points. Baker is in third with 44
points. In the Player of the Year competition, 16 points are awarded to the
tournament winner, the runner-up gets eight points, third-place is worth four
points and the fourth-place finisher earns two points.

In the final tournament of the 2014 season, the field has been cut to the top 24
players for Wednesday’s match play which will culminate with the championship
rounds at 5 p.m. CT.

The top eight players in competition points (not player of the year points) will
also earn an entry into World Series of Bowling VI in Las Vegas Oct. 24-Nov. 2 and a special PBA50 qualifier preceding the World Series which will determine
the two players who will face off in the WSOB Challenge telecast on ESPN.

Jurek Wins His First PBA50 Championship

Jack Jurek of Lackawanna, NY, who has endured a series of bad breaks in his quest for his first PBA50 Tour title, made a breakthrough Thursday night when he struck on eight of his first nine shots to defeat PBA Hall of Famer Randy Pedersen of Clermont, FL, 242-205, in the title match of the PBA50 South Shore Open at Olympia Lanes.

“It’s never an easy battle out here,” Jurek said. “I’ve won a couple of Steve Nagy Sportsmanship Awards because I’ve lost a lot of times in title matches and people think I’m a nice guy.”

Jurek, who had disappointing losses in Dayton, Ohio, a week earlier after losing a crushing loss to Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. earlier in the year in the USBC Senior Masters title match, came into the finale in Hammond with a fresh attitude, thanks in part to some advice he got from Pedersen, his traveling roommate.

“(Randy) and I talked a little after my debacle in Dayton and he gave me some thoughts about how he approaches things,” Jurek said. “It helped. I’ve got a lot of guys who have been trying to help. (PBA legend) Mark Roth has been telling me, stop being so nice. Go beat people, so tonight I just decided to go for it. I was a lot more aggressive than I have been.”

Against Pedersen, Jurek’s only major mistake was leaving a 2-4-8-10 split in the fourth frame, but otherwise he was nearly perfect.

“Jack was due,” Pedersen said. “He’s been bowling really well. After he left the 2-4-8-10 (in the fifth frame), I was wondering if the old Jack was going to show up or the new one. He preserved.”

In the first semifinal round between a pair of PBA Hall of Famers, Pedersen defeated Pete Weber of St. Ann, MO, 267-226, putting a crimp in Weber’s hopes to overtake fellow PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke in the 2014 PBA50 Player of the Year race. That battle will be decided in the PBA50 Tour’s season finale in Welch, MN, next week.

Duke, who leads the race with 56 points, failed to add to his total in Hammond when he was eliminated in the Round of 8. Weber picked up four points for finishing fourth to increase his total to 48 heading into Welch, MN. Tom Baker of King, NC, also remains in contention with 44 points. In the Player of the Year competition, 16 points will be awarded to the tournament winner, the runner-up gets eight points, third-place is worth four points and the fourth-place finisher earns two points.

In the second semifinal match, Jurek, a PBA50 Tour rookie and two-time PBA Tour title winner, used a string of nine strikes to defeat Canadian John Chapman, 267-206. For Chapman, who was trying for his first PBA50 title, it was his highest finish as a senior player.

The most dramatic match of the tournament came in the best-of-five-game Round of 16 when Chapman eliminated Duke, 3-2. After Duke jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Chapman rallied to win the last three games, 247-234, 231-224 and 248-247.

The PBA50 Tour concludes its 2014 season next week with the PBA50 Treasure Island Resort & Casino Open presented by Hammer at Island Xtreme Bowl in Welch, MN. The season-finale gets underway with a special “Pete Weber Knock Down Pins for Cancer” event on Sunday, Aug. 10, followed by eight-game qualifying rounds Monday and Tuesday at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. After 16 games, the top 32 players will advance to single-elimination match play competition beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The Round of 8, followed by semifinal and championship rounds, begin at 5 p.m.

PBA 50 South Shore Open Lead by Harry Sullins in Round One

Hoping to end a streak of three seasons without a PBA50 Tour win, Harry Sullins of Chesterfield Township, Mich., averaged 249 to lead first round qualifying Tuesday in the PBA50 South Shore Open presented by DV8 at Olympia Lanes.

Sullins, whose last PBA50 Tour win came at Olympia Lanes in August of 2011,
bowled a 1,995 eight-game pinfall with games of 215, 258, 236, 244, 268, 277,
245 and 252 to lead two-time PBA Tour winner Jack Jurek of Lackawanna, N.Y., in second with a 1,988 pinfall.

“It’s been a while since I’ve hoisted a trophy in a tour event,” said Sullins,
who has won five PBA Tour titles and three PBA50 Tour titles. “I’ve done pretty
well at this center so I’d like nothing better than to end my winless streak
here.”

Sullins, has three top-five finishes this season including fourth-place finishes
in the Miller High Life Classic and Grants Pass Open, and a fifth-place finish
in last week’s Dayton Classic.

“My game is where I want it to be but the competition gets so tough in match
play,” Sullins said. “I’m working hard, just need to keep hammering away at it.”

Jurek, trying for his first PBA50 Tour win, is coming off a fourth-place finish
in the Dayton Classic and a second-place finish in the USBC Senior Masters in
his last two PBA50 tournaments.

Rounding out the top eight after the first round were Hall of Famers Parker Bohn
III, Jackson, N.J., 1,969; Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo., 1,953 and Amleto Monacelli,
Venezuela, 1,944, followed by John Chapman, Canada, 1,942; Kenny Parks, Hammond, Ind., 1,927, and Hall of Famer Randy Pedersen, Orlando, Fla., 1,925.

Defending champion Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Ocala, Fla., who rolled the
round’s only 300 game, finished in ninth with 1,922.

The 77-player field will return Wednesday for another eight-game qualifying
round which will determine the top 24 players who will advance to Thursday’s
match play rounds. The championship rounds are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.

APBI to Conduct First Events March 1-2.

Kenny Parks, Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Senior Champion has announced that the first events for his Alliance of Professional Bowlers International organization will be held March 1-2 at Dixie Bowl in Louisville, KY.

According to the APBI website, there will be separate Champions 50 (i.e., senior) events both days, as well as on Open Division event on March 1. Each event will pay $2,000 for first place, with those prizes guaranteed in the senior tournaments, according to the site.

Additional APBI events have been announced for this summer in Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville and Cincinnati. Parks has said he will not schedule tournaments that conflict with PBA50 Tour events.

Monacelli Joins Elite Group as Third Two-Time PBA Senior U.S. OPEN Winner

 

In winning his second consecutive PBA Senior U.S. Open title, Venezuela’s Amleto Monacelli joins Tom Baker and Wayne Webb as the third two-time winner of the event. All three are PBA Hall of Famers and all three have won the PBA50 Tour major in back-to-back years.

 

Baker won the Senior U.S. Open in 2005 and ’06, Webb won in 2008 and ’09 and Monacelli in 2012 and ’13.

 

● The Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open, presented by Storm, featured challenging lane conditions and failed to produce a 300 game. The high game in the tournament was 299, shot by Monacelli in qualifying and Tulsa’s Mike Edwards in match play.

 

● Among the match play finalists, Monacelli led the field with 218.2 average for the tournament, nearly seven pins more than Walter Ray Williams Jr., who had the second best average of 211.92. Ron Winger was the top super senior in the field, at age 71, making match play and finishing 24th. Robin Romeo was the top woman, finishing among the 53 cashers in 49th place.

 

PBA50 Tour Leads to ESPN Finale in 2013

A new name, new venues, a season-long points competition leading to an ESPN-televised finale, and a crop of new star players will highlight the 2013 PBA50 Tour season.

The 2013 PBA50 Tour (formerly PBA Senior Tour) schedule will consist of 11 tournaments, with new stops in Welch, MN; Tampa, FL (tentative), and Trussville, AL.

 

The season-long points competition will qualify the top three players for the ESPN-televised PBA50 Tour Finals, which will be a stepladder event conducted during the 2013 PBA World Series of Bowling V next November. Also, selected PBA50 Tour events will be webcast live on pba.com’s online bowling channel, Xtra Frame. Details regarding the televised finals and Xtra Frame schedule will be announced later.

 

“We are thrilled to be bringing a PBA50 final back to TV,” said PBA Commissioner Tom Clark. “A national audience will see first-hand that the competition on the PBA50 Tour is intense and important, and the crop of players eligible will excite all bowling fans. The PBA is committed to its over-50 membership and proud to be bringing the best of the best to a national television audience.”

 

The PBA50 Tour will also include other changes, including a revised format that advances more players to match play in selected events that attract 120 or more entries.

 

The Super Senior prize fund, for the age 60-and-older players who finish out of the regular prize list, will also be revised. In previous years, Super Senior cash spots were awarded based on total entries. For 2013, cash spots will be awarded at a ratio of 1:6 Super Senior entries, with a minimum of eight and a maximum of 10 cashing in each tournament.

 

Las Vegas will continue to host the PBA50 Tour’s two major championships, with the Suncoast Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center hosting the Suncoast Senior U.S. Open, presented by Storm, June 2-7, followed by the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center, June 9-14.

 

The 2013 PBA50 season will again see a new crop of top-level players from the PBA Tour eligible to compete, including PBA Hall of Famers Pete Weber, Parker Bohn III and ESPN analyst Randy Pedersen. Also on the list of those becoming eligible at age 50 in the months ahead are PBA Tour champions Jack Jurek, Chris Warren and David Traber.
