Top Rookie Doyle Switches To Storm From Ebonite

After winning the 2018 PBA Rookie of the Year award, Kamron Doyle has

decided to make a big move for 2019, leaving Ebonite International and signing a multi-year deal with Storm.

Doyle, 20, signed his first career contract with Ebonite three years ago but told FloBowling on Tuesday he decided to make the move to Storm, signing a two-year deal.

In his first full season on tour, Doyle earned top rookie honors after cashing in seven of 15 events. His best finish in 2018 was third at the Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic.

“This was definitely one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made and making that phone call to Ebonite was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Doyle said. “Storm balls generally are more of the shape I like to see, and I feel like it’s going to give me a lot more confidence (in) making decisions and bowling in general.”

Storm Vice President of Business Development Gary Hulsenberg told FloBowling Doyle’s move wasn’t about money.

“The truth is, just like other professional sports, professional bowlers usually change brands or teams for more money,” Hulsenberg said. “This isn’t the case with Kam. He grew up having a lot of success with Storm equipment but then got offered money as a college student to use another brand and took it. We’ve kept our relationship intact and now he is choosing to come back to the brand he had so much success with. We are happy to welcome him to Team Storm and can’t wait to help him win.”

Doyle knows the learning curve will be steep switching balls immediately before heading into the new season, which begins Thursday with the 2019 PBA Hall of Fame Classic.

“I think this was the big next step I had to take for me to be successful,” Doyle said. “It might take a couple tournaments for me to get used to the new balls, but I think in the long run it’s going to be better for me.”

Doyle’s entrance into the PBA Tour had been hyped for years. In 2010, he made huge news when, at age 12, he set the record for the youngest bowler in history to cash in a PBA regional. A couple years later as an eighth grader, Doyle cashed in one of the toughest bowling tournaments in the world, the U.S. Open.

The pins aren't always going to willingly lay down for you. Sometimes they put up a fight. Storm Leaks Info on Two New Balls

We all have our own styles, our own games. And the ‘keys’ to better bowling are different for each of us. Some have all the speed in the world but lack the rev rate to match. Others have a great handle on their equipment but don’t understand which ball to use and where to play on the lane.

2015 Junior Gold Championships in Chicago To Be Televised

The Junior Gold Championships presented by Storm, Roto Grip and 

Master, is the pinnacle event for top youth bowlers and this summer the title matches of the annual tournament will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. An agreement is in place to televise the boys and girls championships matches of the Under 12, Under 15 and Under 20 divisions.

"The Junior Gold program is exploding in both participation and

interest and national television will elevate our future stars of the sport into

an even brighter spotlight," USBC Executive Director Chad Murphy said. "A 

future for the sport starts with youth programs such as Junior Gold and kids atthe event will have the experience of a lifetime being part of a major television broadcast."

The television package was made possible in part thanks to funding from the sale of adult spectator passes. The Junior Gold Championships started selling the one-day or all-week passes at the 2014 tournament.

"All the funds from the spectator pass are going right back into the 

enhancement of the event," Murphy said. "We really appreciate the fantastic support from all of our Junior Gold parents and families for helping grow this event into something so special for the kids."

The 2015 Junior Gold Championships will be held in the Chicago area from July 13-17. All title matches will take place at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois, on July 17. Details on the broadcast agreement will be released soon.

The Junior Gold Championships annually awards scholarships and crowns a boys and girls champion in the three age divisions. Top qualifiers and champions also can earn spots on Junior Team USA. A record field of nearly 2,500 youth bowlers took part in the 2014 Junior Gold Championships.

Junior Gold competitors start the journey to the national tournament by 

qualifying through local tournaments. At the national championships, 

competitors must go through three days of qualifying and then match play to determine a champion.

The Junior Gold Championships week also includes exhibits, seminars and the Collegiate Experience, where bowlers have the opportunity to learn about bowling programs from colleges throughout the country.

The US Open Battles - Great Show

 

If you didn’t happen to catch the finals of the US Open, you missed quite a show. Not only did the men and women compete on the same lanes throughout the tournament, but the men’s and women’s champions faced off in a Battle of the Sexes to determine one ultimate champion.

 

In the first women’s match; which didn’t make TV; reigning USBC Queens champion Diandra Asbaty fell to reigning Team USA Trials champion Danielle McEwan 192-171. McEwan advanced to face two-time Women’s US Open champion Liz Johnson.

 

On the men’s side, the first match was Team USA member and collegiate standout Marshall Kent against PBA champion Wes Malott. Kent left a bucket (2-4-5-8 combination) and missed the spare to allow Malott to win with a mark in the 10^th frame 200-193. Malott advanced to face five-time men’s US Open winner Pete Weber.

 

The men’s and women’s semifinal matches; Malott versus Weber and McEwan versus Johnson; were contested live on TV as both matches were conducted simultaneously. Johnson topped her Team USA teammate McEwan 227-202 while Malott rolled a 279 to best Weber’s 182 and setup a Master’s rematch against Jason Belmonte. Johnson advanced to face top seed Kelly Kulick. Kulick has been the top seed at three consecutive Women’s US Opens.

 

In the finals, Malott took advantage of Belmonte’s early struggles to best the Master’s champion 214-156. It was the first major title for Malott who has just come back from recent knee surgery. In the women’s finals, Johnson threw six consecutive strikes to easily best defending champion Kulick 257-195.

 

In the final TV match, Johnson and Malott faced off in the Battle of the Sexes round to determine the ultimate champion. Johnson, who faced Malott on TV previously in a PBA tournament, rolled a 194 to best Malott’s 188 earning herself an extra $10,000.

 

All eight bowlers in the stepladder finals are members of the Storm or Roto Grip staffs. While it would have been nice to see the first stepladder matches, the overall show was worth the watch.

New IQ Tour Pearl coming from Storm

The success of the the Storm Master™ line IQ Tour Edition with midlane control and hitting power prompted Storm to create the perfect compliment, the IQ Tour Pearl.

Storm reports “The IQ Tour Edition quickly became the new standard for benchmark balls in the industry. The highly polished pearl R2S™ coverstock was added to the C3™ Centripetal Control Core to create the new IQ Tour Pear. The release date of the IQ Tour Pearl is December 4, 2012.

GEICO PBA Summer Shootout on ESPN

Reigning U.S. Open champ Pete Weber of St. Ann, MO, put 12 points on the board in Round 4 of the GEICO PBA Summer Shootout at 10pin bowling lounge, helping his Storm team take the early lead in the annual Manufacturers Cup competition.

The first four rounds of one ball, low-man-out singles elimination matches aired Sunday on ESPN2. In each round, nine players representing nine different bowling ball brands competed in three groups of three players each. The survivor of the low-man-out preliminary matches advance to a final match where the winner earned 12 points, runner-up 8 points and third-place finisher 7 points. Those eliminated in the preliminary matches earned lesser points.

Weber, behind a flawless seven-strike performance (three in his preliminary match and four in a row in a Round 4 showdown with Roto Grip’s Brian Kretzer of Dayton, Ohio), helped Storm take a three-point lead over Ebonite and DV8 in the bowling ball manufacturers’ contest. Brunswick’s Chris Loschetter finished third in Round 4 after an eight-count on his first shot in the three-player final match.

In the first round, Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, NY, threw four strikes in a row – two in his preliminary match and two more in the final showdown to eliminate Storm’s Osku Palermaa of Finland and DV8’s Ronnie Russell of Camby, IN, staking Brunswick to an early lead in the team competition. Russell struck on his first shot in the final match, but had a nine-count on his second shot. Palermaa finished third after an eight-count on his first attempt.

Round 2 went to Columbia 300’s Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, who struck on his first three shots to edge DV8’s Mike Machuga of Erie, PA (double and nine-count). Ebonite’s Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, SC, was third after a nine-count on his first shot in the final match.

Newly-inducted PBA Hall of Famer Jason Couch, who announced his retirement from PBA Tour competition at the start of the Summer Shootout, temporarily put Ebonite into the team lead when he claimed 12 points in Round 3, ousting 900 Global’s Robert Smith of Las Vegas, who left three pins standing on his second shot. Hammer’s Bill O’Neill of Southampton, PA, was knocked out with a seven-count on his first ball.

Five more rounds of singles and doubles low-man-out elimination rounds will determine the team seeding positions for an elimination position round contest leading into the Baker doubles format stepladder finals. All remaining rounds of the GEICO PBA Summer Shootout will air on ESPN on Saturday, July 14, at noon ET and Sunday, July 15, at 1 p.m. ET.

STORM Bowling Products recently introduced the new Street Rod duo. With Reactor coverstocks, the solid in Blue and Black is finished at 2000 Abralon (and smells like Blueberries), while the pearl (Red Pearl/Blue Pearl) cover is 1500 finished with polish (and has the aroma of Strawberries). The Turbine core (lightbulb with a flip block on the bottom) produces RG/Diff numbers of: #16-2.53/.040, #15-2.55/.038, #14- 2.58/.035.
