Chris Barnes defeated collegiate bowler Rebekah Diers, 257-207, in the title match of Bowling's Clash of Champions, a United States Bowling Congress event, in front of nearly 1,500 fans Thursday at the Reno Events Center.
Barnes' wife, Lynda, defeated Sean Rash in last year's inaugural clash.
"In this format, with this field, it's tough to have high expectations," Barnes said in a release. "I was fortunate that Lynda bowled in this event lasy year because I knew what I wanted to try and accomplish and it worked."
Diers, who bowls for McKendree College, opened the game with four consecutive strikes before leaving the 2-4-10 split and converting it. In the seventh frame, she left the 4-6-7-10 split to end her upset bid.
Barnes won $50,000 and Diers earned $25,000. The Clash will be televised on CBS from 4-6 p.m. EDT on May 9.
